The Douglas County Historical Society and the Meadowlark Model A Ford Club are hosting the Vintage Wheels at the Fort Car Show again this year. The event will take place on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Metropolitan Community College Fort Omaha Campus at 30th and Fort Street. This will be the fourth year for this fun day at the Fort for the entire family and it is planned to be the best yet. All vintage cars and trucks at least 50 years old (pre-1968) and in original or restored original condition are welcome. There are no entry fees, no classes, no hot rods, no street rods, no rat rods, etc. Just vintage vehicles the way they were during the first 3/4 century of the automobile era. Take a free tour of the 1879 General Crook House Museum on "Officers Row" of the Fort and wander among the cars displayed on the street under the giant shade trees. Lunch, cold drinks and snacks will be available and several groups will provide live music throughout the day. Free rides will be available in vintage vehicles. The show will run from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and vehicles are welcome to come and go at any time. Enter the Fort at the East entrance at 30th and Fort Street or through the South entrance off Sorensen Parkway and follow the signs for either the public parking lot or the registration table. Bring the entire family for a great time in a wonderful park setting.

The Tuesday evening eat out will take place at this location.  There will be a free will offering.

There will be an early breakfast followed by the garage tours.  First to Jeff Meiers to see his collection of neat cars.  Then tour to John Mackichan's to view his Hot Rod Model A.  Directions will be provided the morning of the tours.  There will be some GRAVEL roads to navigate.

At the meeting there will be a presentation of Robbers Cave and Blue Bloods Brewery.  The second Tuesday eat out will take place on Monday, June 11th at Blue Blood Brewery.  There will be a tour of Robbers Cave that evening.

After eating we will tour Robbers Cave.  Cost is $10.  Sign up sheet will be at the June meeting.  If unable to attend the meeting, notify Judi Cook by Friday, June 8th.

Registration is through the internet, limit of 150 cars, $20 if paid before day of show, $30 day of show.  If you only want to display your Model A, there is a $10 donation fee going to the "Heroes Into Homes" charity.

Regional Meet

Registration is from 7 am till noon on Saturday.  $20. Limit of 150 vehicles.  Cars are on display inside the Museum Saturday from 12-5 pm and Sunday from 9-5 pm.  Awards will be presented at 4 pm on Sunday.  There will be a parachute jump by the Lincoln Sport Parachute Club during the opening ceremonies on Saturday at noon.  You will receive 2 free admission passes the Museum for the weekend for every vehicle entered into the show.

The Christmas Party has been postponed for Dec. 4, 2020.  It may be rescheduled in January depending on DHM's

Check-in will be from 5-5:30 pm near the Lied Center at 12th & R Street.  The route will run from 14th & R, north on 16th Street, west on Vine Street and through the Memorial Stadium Loup.  Please let Dick Waechter know if you will be participating.  Any additional information will be sent to those who plan on driving in the parade.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE OCTOBER MEETING IS AT 12400 HOLDREGE STREET, GLEN MANSKE'S BUILDING.  IT'S ON THE NORTH SIDE OF HOLDREGE STREET.

There will be hayrack (trailer) rides, a small farmers market and we've been invited to bring our Model A's and possibly give rides.  This is a fund raiser for their Sunday School Mission Project.  A pot luck meal will be served at 5 pm.  Members may bring a side dish food item if they wish.

Set up is Saturday, March 2nd starting at 8 am.  Collections on Sunday, Marach 3 begins at 6 am.

Business meeting will follow breakfast.  After the meeting there will be a tour to Elmwood to visit the Bess Streeter Aldrich home.

Meeting location is the U-Stop gas station at 84th & Highway 6.  We plan on leaving there at 12:30.  Be aware that we will be driving slowly on a gravel road.
